About the Role
Asheville School seeks a dynamic, experienced coach for its USA Swimming and NC Independent High School teams. With responsibility for training the top tier swimmers on a growing team, this position offers the opportunity to grow the club and high school programs. Reporting to the Athletic Director, this position oversees 1-2 coaches and manages a six-lane 25 yard pool. This is a new position to reflect the needs of a growing swim club in western North Carolina and there is room for growth for an energized and effective leader.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Serve as the Coach of the performance group with Blues Aquatics and the Asheville School Varsity Swim Team
Primary focus on coaching high performance swimmers.
Play a lead role in attracting qualified student-athletes to the school .
Oversee scheduling all meets and meet entries.
Recruit officials to get trained and certified .
Act as Meet Director for all home meets.
Represent Asheville School at WNC High School swim meeting and NCISAA Swim Coaches Board as an officer.
Serve as the school's liaison to Blues Aquatics
Act as liaison between School and club
Maintain financial records and match Team Unify financials with School records
Oversee and develop coaching staff
Generate overall vision and direction of club
Performs other duties to help ensure the smooth operation of the swimming program and Athletics Department.
Minimum Qualifications Required
At least seven years of experience coaching at a competitive club or school, to include experience developing, training and motivating athletes ages 14-18.
USA Swimming-required coaching certifications.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs applicable to the position.
Demonstrated passion for working with young people and enthusiasm for developing a quality swim club.
Ability to develop young athletes into regional and national swimmers with an eye to facilitating college swimming careers.
Capable communicator who can inspire athletes and work effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community.
Strong people, organizational, and administrative skills needed to lead a growing swim club and effectively manage related operations.
Ability to expand professional relationships within the sport.
Attention to detail with ability to effectively schedule and coordinate meet opportunities for varying athlete levels.
Demonstrated commitment to safety.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to pre-employment physical examination and medical history check and background check.
Must maintain required certification status, as per USA Swimming.
Work Setting & Environmental Factors
This position requires travel to attend meets and related meetings.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and pool mechanical systems.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when in the facility.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. This includes wet surfaces and use of chemicals for pool maintenance.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
